A legendary tragicomedy about a woman whose irony became an era.
This stage production is a tribute to the great Faina Ranevskaya — one of the brightest, sharpest-witted and most mysterious actresses of the 20th century. Acclaimed by tens of thousands of spectators in Russia and abroad, the performance invites audiences into the unique world of Faina Georgievna, where brilliant humor intertwines with deep drama, and behind every sharp remark lies a vulnerable and profound soul.
The play is based on real memories, quotes and stories from Ranevskaya’s life. The authors preserved her authentic language, intonation and character, making Faina Georgievna herself feel like a true co-author of the production. This is far more than a comedy. The central figure is not only Ranevskaya herself, but also her unique humor — sharp, subtle, wise and timeless. Here, laughter gives way to touching sincerity, while irony reveals philosophical depth.
“Beauty is a terrible force.”
“Life is too short for diets, greedy men and bad moods.”
“Everything pleasant in this world is either immoral, illegal or fattening.”
On stage, the real Ranevskaya comes alive: brilliant, witty, vulnerable and endlessly vivid. Behind her famous aphorisms lie a delicate soul, inner strength and an extraordinary love for life. This performance is an act of admiration, recognition and a tribute to a great Russian actress, leaving the audience with the feeling of having touched something genuine, profound and unforgettable.
